Life would be so much easier, if we were all born holding a manual on “how to”. For starters, we wouldn’t need our loved ones, to help us navigate the storms ahead. We wouldn’t need anyone to teach us how to walk, talk or hold a fork. You would select a topic and turn the page on instructions, and voila! Learn on your own and execute, done. But fortunately life does not quite work like that. We must all go through the steps to get to our desired end results.
I love baking, really enjoy cooking specially when I don’t have to, but want to. Taken all the pressure away, most activities are more enjoyable when you have the right to decide if you want to do it or not. When I choose to cook, I am quite aware of the risks I am taking. I love my blueberry scones, they are delicious and so easy to make, because they come with instructions. Cooking come with instructions. But life does not. The recipes tell you what to do, how to do and when to do. Pretty easy right? Not so fast, even my to-live-for blueberry scones come out of the oven, burnt or too dry sometimes .Although I have made them, a million times! Still, what happens inside that oven, it’s pretty much unpredictable.
Many times I got so frustrated, I tossed them in the trash. I never even gave them a chance. Maybe, they still had something to offer, after all, how disastrous can the combination of sugar, flour and eggs be ? Lately, I have been a little easier on myself. There are some occasions in life, in which it’s ok to settle for less, or maybe retreat from our battles, because your plans didn’t turn out exactly how you expected they would. Time to regroup and rethink strategies.
Find beauty, or taste in all you do. Life is not perfect. And that is beautiful. It allows us not to be perfect as well. It relieves the pressure. It lowers the bar. It frees us. Be glad life doesn’t come with instructions. It gives us the permission to be whoever we choose to be. We make a mistake, we can learn and try and to do better next time. Guilty free.
Your efforts say more about you, than the end results. The hard work you put into everything we do, is the most important ingredient we will ever need. The rest will come together at the right time. And if not, again another lesson learned. More muscle brain.
Nothing is lost in the quest for knowledge.
The joy in the process of accomplishing anything, should be the reason for doing everything.
Be well. Bake without instructions today, Be free.

I love the advice and that indeed we need to try without a manual. It’s making mistakes that we might get to see the light ahead. And at times, as you say, we might also give it a chance even if things don’t come precisely as we wanted to.
